Oktoberfest 2026 breaks records: 7.4 million people and 6.7 million liters of beer

· Written by El pana Claudio

Munich's Oktoberfest closed this year with the biggest attendance in its history. According to the city, 7.4 million people passed through the Wiesn, 200,000 more than the previous record of 7.2 million in 2023. Festival director Christian Scharpf called it a historic result.

And people didn't just come to watch. They drank 6.7 million liters of beer, 2.7% more than last year's 6.5 million. That's a lot of raised steins and a lot of shouted "Prost."

Food sales also rose between 2% and 3%, and vendors credit roast chicken, the classic Hendl that goes with the stein. The Oide Wiesn, the section that recreates the festival as it was a century ago, welcomed 447,000 visitors.

What about us? No need to cross the Atlantic. It's Märzen and Festbier season, and several local breweries are releasing their fall lagers. Grab one, add a roast chicken and you've got your own Puerto Rican Oktoberfest.
